Amazing 2009

I'm in the mood to write on what happened to me this year. Hehehehe... I had so many experiences and met lots of people, and so on and so forth... I met some good guys this year and one of them just made me really sad. I will not go to further details...

I also got promoted in my job. I was able to re-evaluate myself to be more productive to the company I'm working with. I appreciate having these people around me and I love them so much. They may not believe it but I enjoy every working day that I spend with the team...

This is also the year where I experienced staying at the airport for loooooong hours due to bad weather conditions: first, with my family and second was with a friend. I still consider it as a blessing from God, especially after what happened to the ill-fated Air France flight. Being alive, safe and surrounded by my family and friends will always be something that I am thankful of. The summer experience at the airport with my family was unforgettable and I also had the chance to go on an adventure in Cebu - on our own, without much knowledge about the language. It really brought excitement in me. Things like that, getting lost in translation and the place itself, always had my adrenaline pumping, hahaha...

Mau also got married this year. She's just one among my friends who got hitched and made me wonder, when will be my turn. A colleague, and former college classmate, Armi, will be getting married before this month ends. I'm happy for them. Still, I'm wishing that my special day will come soon, hehehe, but I'm not in a rush.

This is also the year where I got the chance to meet the Backstreet Boys. It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience that was so unforgettable, I could still remember that events that transpired on that fateful day. It was a good thing that I didn't act like a crazed fan because I would not be able to perform the task at hand - to interview them. It was something that had me fulfilled as a fan although I know that there are still lots of things to do at the fan club. I will always be proud of being a Backstreet Boys fan and I don't care about what other people think about it. I'm happy because I know what I want and I'm making other people happy with the things we do in the fan club.

Papa retired this year officially and legally. It was something we are partly looking forward to because for most of his adult life, he spent it serving the country. His dedication was remarkable. It was also emotional for us because we realized that he touched a lot of people's lives with just being his simple self. It touched ours too and we will always appreciate and be thankful for having them in our lives.

I was also able to travel abroad - with my parents for the first time. It was fun and memorable and I am definitely looking forward to go on another trip abroad with them. Basta si Papa ang taya! Hahaha.

Madami pa akong adventures that happened this year. May masaya, may malungkot. May nakakatakot. May life-threatening. It's been a great year. Thank God! Hopefully, ganun din sa 2010. (",)

Someone's threatening my mother's life and ruin ours daw... ows? Pwedeng mag-asawa muna ako bago nyo gawin yun? Hahaha. Ano pa bang pwedeng baho ang ilabas sa family namin kaya? Kasi di ako natatakot kung anuman yun. I've been receiving text messages this weekend and chose to ignore it. It will only be just a waste of time. I didn't even know kung saan nahuhugot ang ganoong klaseng galit. I'm not afraid to say this now. Wala namang mawawala sa amin eh. We're not a perfect family but we try to trust and respect each other and support each other through ups and downs, at pagsabihan ang bawat isa sa mga pagkakamali nila. Papa doesn't want to further fire up the family feud. He even wants us to live in peace now kahit na sinaktan na ang mama ko. Other husbands would retaliate but dad didn't. Sending mom to the doctor was a more mature action that I've seen since these things happen. That's how decent he is. It only takes a matter of time to let everyone hear him speak and when he does, matakot kayo. He usually doesn't speak his mind. He's a very quiet person. You won't hear him say it or see him do anything about the matter.

This is going to be my last post about this issue. If anything happens to my family, please remember this post. This message goes out to everyone. I surely hope nothing happens because it's only one speed dial away to my lawyer friend... i don't want things to come to that.

read and let me know what you think...

The Boys have a problem.

There's this feeling in the world of pop music that they're damaged.

That they're old.

That they're adult.

Forget that red-one produced their new single...

"It's good I just wish it wasn't Backstreet Boys..."

Can I ask for a second why?

How many cd's have they sold worldwide?

How much have they done for pop radio?

How many lives have they impacted and how many people do they need today?

Oh, in the States? Not many.

So rightly so, they're going where they're loved.

Over there. The UK. Russia. You know, the countries which launched their dominance.

It's sad, really. We're passing the buck because had Lady Gaga done the song with Red-One producing it, we'd be all over it.

Forget their talent.

Forget what they've done for a format, for a genre. For a generation of fans.

Yup. We'll pass on what made us.

So the world can embrace them again.

I guess it's true that prophets aren't known in their own land.

But I'll not ever understand why we can be delivered gold and cast it to swine.

It makes no sense to me that we won't even pay attention to a group which has done so much for the music we played and to the sound we claim as our own as one of those in the pop genre. We explain away their relevance as being that which made the past possible without stopping to think that our female fans might just want to hear a bit of nostalgia which speaks to their hearts.

Which is missing in the sound of now.

Which might be the sound of now if we just stopped to listen.

I'm not saying we owe it to them. I'm saying we owe them a listen.

Our fans. And their fans. Will take it from there.

So how do we make this happen?

We reach out. We make noise. We stand up on that which we can control - the online universe - and we make noise which is free from marketing machines and free from radio station content directors who protect the product from that which might actually show what fans want to hear...

... and we keep at it.

We make a case. We buy singles. We buy full lengths. We go to shows. We support with that in a capitalistic society ultimately speaks loudest:

Our pocketbooks.

Then, those who won't hear will have to hear. And when they do what we as fans hear will be clear.

This battle - although very clouded - is not lost.

Keep the faith.

Press on.

Voices which grow in chorus often resonate loudest...

... especially when it comes to the artists who make us feel.

Keep the faith, friends... this isn't over. It's just getting warmed up.

-t.
